Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) is a state-funded undergraduate vocational institution that evolved from Shenzhen Polytechnic, which was founded in 1993. Following the approval from China's Ministry of Education in June 2023, Shenzhen Polytechnic was restructured and elevated to become Shenzhen Polytechnic University(SZPU). This transformation marked a significant milestone, as SZPU became the first "Double High-Level" vocational college to be upgraded to university status under the Ministry's new framework for establishing undergraduate vocational institutions.Throughout its history, SZPU has remained dedicated to fostering both moral integrity and professional competence in its students. While maintaining its strong foundation in vocational education, the university draws strength from its unique position in Shenzhen's dynamic environment. In response to national strategic needs and local development priorities, SZPU upholds its motto"Moral and Professional Excellence, Continuous Self-improvement." The university operates across three campuses - Xili, Xiangmi, and Shanwei-Shenzhen, covering over 4,000 mu (approximately 667 acres). It employs more than 2,900 faculty and staff members and serves over 30,000 full-time students. For the 2024 academic year, SZPU offers 15 undergraduate programs and 84 diploma programs for full-time students.

Over the past five years, SZPU has secured 323 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, including 80 National Natural Science Foundation projects. The university has received over 900 million yuan in research funding, with an average annual income of 75 million yuan from industry collaborations and training services.SZPUhas been grantedwith391 national invention patents and PCT patents, established 114 international, national, industry, local, and group standards, and contributed to solving three critical "bottleneck" technologies. Its technical research and services have supported over 2,500 small and medium-sized enterprises. The university has received 3 national-level research awards, 11 provincial-level research awards, and one work won the 8th Lu Xun Literary Prize. SZPU has established 43 provincial-level research platforms, 6 academician workstations and laboratories, 14 applied technology innovation centers, 10 public technology service platforms, and 9 high-end think tanks. The university has consistently ranked among China's top 200 institutions in the Nature Index for4consecutive years.

SZPUis committed inpromotinginternational education and has established collaborative relationships with 205 institutions across 45 countries and regions. The university has established 13 "Shenzhen DigitalXInstitutes" (overseas vocational education and training centers) and is jointly developing the "Greater Bay Area Distinctive Vocational Education Park" with the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council. SZPU was among the first vocational institutions in China authorized to recruit international students and conduct independent enrollment examinations for students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The university has launched four Chinese-foreign cooperative education programs and five Shenzhen-Hong Kong joint talent training projects, educating over 2,200 international students.The university actively participates in global vocational education governance. Since 2006, SZPU has established several UNESCO-affiliated centers: the UNESCO-UNEVOC, theUNESCO Asia-Africa Research and Training Center for Vocational Education, and theUNESCO-ICHEI. In 2022, SZPU established China's firstUNESCO Chair on Digitalization in TVETand launched China's first international journal in vocational education, "Vocation, Technology & Education."SZPU has become home to multiple exchange platforms including the "Belt and Road" International Symposium on Vocational Education, the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) Professional Development Committee, and the Hundred People Forum on China's Practice in Modern Vocational Education.

Aligning with national strategies, SZPU has established a comprehensive social service system rooted in the Greater Bay Area with nationwideimpact. The university has developed a multi-faceted service framework providing technical skills training for industries and enterprises,facultytraining for vocational education institutions, East-West cooperation programs for border regions, ethnic minority areas and revolutionary bases, continuing education for key groups including veterans, new-type farmers and migrant workers, and lifelong learning services for all citizens.SZPUcontinues to support the transformation and upgrading of 214 secondary and higher vocational institutions across 17 provinces and autonomous regions. SZPU has been designated as a National Training Base for Vocational School Principals, a National Training Base for "Dual-Qualified"Faculty, and a Development Base for the New Era OutstandingFaculty, Masters, and Principals Program, and has been recognized as a "National Advanced Unit for Veteran Services and Support." Fully committed to precise poverty alleviation and rural revitalization,SZPUhas maintained a nine-year presence in Heyuan for targeted assistance. To serve citizens' skills enhancement needs, SZPU has established 8 industry training academies and 3 community colleges, providing non-degree training to nearly 70,000 participants annually.

Shouldering the mission of reform and innovation, the university has achieved numerous demonstration accomplishments. In 2001,SZPUpassed the first national assessment for demonstration practical teaching bases; in 2006,SZPUwas selected for the National Demonstrative Higher Vocational Institution Development Program; in 2009,SZPUpassed the first national-level demonstration school evaluation in higher vocational education; in 2016,SZPUwas named among the first batch of National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Model Universities; and in 2019,SZPUwas selected as one of the top 10Tier-A institutions in the first "Double High-Level" Plan and as a pilot institution for the "One-Stop" Student Community Comprehensive Management Model.
