On August 25, the last plenary meeting of award committees for the 8thLu Xun Literature Prize was held in Beijing. Each award committee conducted the final round of voting under the notarization of the national notary agency. After the solemn and serious counting process, Li Jingze, Vice President of the Chinese Writers Association, read out the voting results.Among them, Cai Dong, a teacher of SZPT, won the short story prize with her short story “Under the Moonlight”, for the first time over the past 17 years since 2005 when Shenzhen won the Lu Xun Literature Prize.
“Under the Moonlight” is a short story of classic character with the power to move people through complex emotions and life experiences. The novel is written affectionately and delicately, reaching deep places that are difficult to explore, staying in the corners of the heart that cannot be spoken, and emerging with a moving lightness into a broad realm, with deep meaning and lingering aftertaste between in lines. Cai Dong holds a profound and sensitive insight, and goes deep into the undercurrent of the contemporary social process to see the changes of the world. She pays attention to the real life, and is good at exploring the character’s spiritual world. The work reveals the high complexity of life and emotion, exudes strong sympathy and understanding for people, with the bright and inclusive moonlight seeming to be transmitted from words, and provides deep concern beyond existentialism in the sense of life ethics.
