On May 24-30, the 17th China University Taekwondo Championships, sponsored by the Federation of University Sports of China, was held in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. After 5 days of fierce competition, our Taekwondo sports team, by virtue of their strong will, fighting spirit and strength of unity, won 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals in Group B; the first place in the total score of men’s team and the first place in the total score of women’s team; and the “PE Morality Award”. The instructor Rao Ying was awarded “Excellent Coach”. Wen Ziqian from the School of Electric and Communication Engineering, Chen Weilian from the School of Economics and Sheng Ke from the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering were awarded “Excellent Athlete”.
As the highest-level event of Taekwondo sports for Chinese college students, the competition attracted nearly 2000 athletes from 195 colleges and universities such as Zhejiang University and Sun Yat-sen University, with the largest scale and the highest overall level ever. Our Taekwondo team was coached by teachers Rao Ying and Xu Li. A total of 23 SZPT students participated in the competition.
This is the second time that our Taekwondo sports team won two team champions by total score, and the sixth time that it won the men’s team champion by total score. The Taekwondo team has made great achievements in the competition, as well as in respect of innovation and entrepreneurship. At present, the team members have founded 3 start-up companies, and invented 5 national utility model patents, and the self-developed electronic protective gear has been recognized by the organizing committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Games and applied to the whole competition, which has been applied and promoted in Jiangxi, Fujian, Jilin and other provinces and cities. In addition, since its establishment, the team has trained nearly 400 Taekwondo judges, including more than 70 first-level public and national judges, serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
