Booms come as time goes by! At this beautiful moment when the New Year begins and everything takes on a new look, on behalf of the Party Committee and the administration of our college, we would like to extend our great respect and best New Year wishes to SZPT teachers, students, staff, retired leaders, alumni at home and abroad, and friends from all sectors of society who care about and support the development of our college.

The year 2022 has been truly eventful. The 20^th CPC National Congress was successfully held to draw up a bright future for modernization and sound the trumpet for a new journey. Looking back on this year, in the shadow and uncertainty of the epidemic, we kept focus on development, firmly committed to the “dual-high” and “world-class” goal. Everyone came forward to promote the high-quality and connotative development of our college, and made new achievements and breakthroughs in various aspects of work.

In the past year, we comprehensively upgraded our work in Party building and ideological and political education. The whole college studied, publicized and implemented the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress to feel the power of thought and taken strength for moving ahead. SZPT’s Party Committee was awarded the “National Model College for Party Building” cultivation and creation unit, and one Party branch was awarded the “National Model Branch for Party Building” cultivation and creation unit. Our “comprehensive education” work case was selected into outstanding cases of the Ministry of Education and promoted by the China Education Daily and other media. Our students won the second prize in the National College Propaganda Competition “This Decade · Youth Voice” and were selected in the team of teachers and students under the Ministry of Education for spreading the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress. Our feature film “Diligence and Persistence – Ten-Year Development Experience of Vocational Development in Guangdong”, designed to introduce SZPT’s paradigm, was publicized nationwide by the Information Office of the Ministry of Education.

In the past year, we laid equal emphasis on education in five dimensions, and improved the quality of talent training significantly. Substantial progress was made in developing a modern vocational education system. Our teaching connotation construction continued to deepen, with 10 courses recommended into national online quality courses, and 17 national teaching achievement awards. The experience and practice of labor education was selected as one of exemplary achievements and typical cases for campus culture construction in vocational colleges. The School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship was selected into the first “National Schools of Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. We won two gold medals and one silver medal in the national finals of the “Internet+” Competition, nine first prizes in the National Vocational College Skills Competition, four first prizes in the BRICS Vocational Skills Competition, another gold medal in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition, and one silver medal in the first World Vocational College Skills Competition, leading among colleges of the same kind nationwide in multiple respects.

In the past year, we upheld the philosophy of strengthening our college with talents and connotative development, and continued to optimize the faculty construction by increasing 120 doctors, with the proportion of doctors as full-time teachers rising gradually, and increasing 42 high-level talents at national, provincial and municipal levels, with the total number of high-level talents at all levels exceeding 500, which demonstrated the remarkable results in the strategy of strengthening our college with talents. We steadilyadvanced the teaching ability improvement plan to build a “dual-certified” teacher team with high standard and high level, further improving the quality and ability of our teachers.

In the past year, we were committed to reform, self-reliance and self-improvement, with good results achieved in scientific research and innovation. 10 research platformswere approved at provincial, ministerial and municipal levels; 3 academician workstations was established, thereby the total number increased to 5; and 4 new college-level institutes of applied technology and public technical service centers were set up. SZPT took the lead in establishing the Social Science Federation and the Science and Technology Association among colleges in Shenzhen. We received 15 NSFC grants, 2 NSSFC grants, and 3 science and technology awards at provincial and ministerial levels; won 1 short story prize in the 8^th Lu Xun Literature Award, which is the second time that Shenzhen won the Lu Xun Literature Award after 17 years; and published articles in Science for the first time. In 2022, SZPT ranked first in the “Project of Strengthening the College with Innovation” assessment in Guangdong Province, with a significant advantage of 5.61 scores higher than the second place.

In the past year, we put the people and life first, and fulfilled our responsibility to serve the people’s livelihood. We continued support to 14 colleges and universities, including Tibet Vocational Technical College, and Kashi University. The establishment of Shenzhen Veterans Training Institute, Rural Revitalization Training Institute and Shenzhen Community Grid Management Institute was accelerated. The scale of skills training, skills appraisal and qualification authentication kept expanding. SZPT was approved as a national “dual-certified” teacher training base for vocational education and awarded the national “Advanced Unit of Service Support for Veterans”. We set up the first “Youth Task Force against COVID-19” among colleges and universities in Shenzhen, and assigned 19 young cadres in four batches to the streets to fight against the epidemic on a full-time basis, effectively protecting the health and life safety of the public.

In the past year, we pursued a global vision, and made fruitful international exchanges and cooperation. SZPT continued to deepen international vocational education cooperation with Africa, Germany, Finland and Brazil, and set up three new overseas technical and vocational education and training centers; steadily promoted the joint training of talents with the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council, and basically completed the renovation of the featured vocational education park in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We were awarded and launched the UNESCO “Digitalization of Vocational and Technical Education” Teaching Chair, which is the first of its kind in China and the only UNESCO teaching chair in higher vocational colleges worldwide. We made solid progress in applying for the “UNESCO Center for Innovation in Vocational Education in Developing Countries”, and took the lead in formulating and promoting the Shenzhen Protocol, and the Plan for Building the World Vocational Education Alliance was adopted by the Ministry of Education. As the only representative of colleges in China, we delivered keynote speeches at the main forum and parallel forum of the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference.

The road of national rejuvenation is magnificent. The year 2023 is the first year to implement the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress, and the key year to push forward the 14^th Five-Year Plan. Guided by President Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, andwith a higher position, wider vision, more concrete measures and stronger motivation, we will strive to drive the first “assault boat” for innovation and development of vocational education in China to forge ahead steadily and far, jointly open a new chapter for high-quality development of our college, and present a gift to the 30^th anniversary of SZPT with tangible development results!
