On November 10, the Guangdong Provincial Finals of the 2024 “CETV & FLTRP Cup” Vocational English Challenge took place at Shenzhen City Vocational College. After two days of intense competition, two students from Shenzhen Polytechnic University stood out among 108 contestants from over 70 vocational colleges across the province. Fan Wenxiang, a student in the Business English program, won the Grand Prize, and Lin Jialu from the Cultural Creativity program won First Prize. Fan Wenxiang will go on to represent Guangdong Province in the national finals of the Vocational English Challenge, to be held in December in Beijing.

The “FLTRP Cup” National English Speech Contest is one of the largest and most prestigious English competitions in China. With a commitment to nurturing talent and upholding social responsibility, the competition focuses on the dual missions of enhancing the quality and reputation of vocational education in the new era. Its goal is to improve students’ ability to communicate internationally in English, analyze and solve work-related issues, and complete professional tasks. It also aims to build students’ capacity for sharing Chinese culture and telling China’s story effectively in English. The competition provides a platform to showcase the results of English education, explore English teaching reforms, and cultivate high-quality, international, and multi-skilled technical talents aligned with national and societal needs. This year’s theme, “Greatness Comes out of the Ordinary,” highlights the credible, lovable, and admirable image of China, as well as the positive, energetic spirit of Chinese youth striving for excellence.
