The "Model Workers and Craftsmen Enter Campus" lecture series resumed at the Liuxiandong Campus Music Hall.
To promote the spirit of model workers, labor, and craftsmanship, and to highlight the crucial role of labor education in character building, the University Youth League Committee and the Labor Education Center organized another session of the "Model Workers and Craftsmen Enter Campus" lecture series on November 13. Lu Jianxin, Chief Expert at China State Construction Steel Structure Co., Ltd., and known as "China's Skyscraper Pioneer," delivered an inspiring labor education lecture to more than 650 faculty and students.
Lu Jianxin shared his heartfelt journey of over 42 years, during which he participated in the design and construction of landmark buildings in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. From the Shenzhen International Trade Building, known for its “one floor every three days” construction speed, to the Diwang Tower with a vertical deviation smaller than the U.S. standard limit, and the Ping An International Finance Center, the second tallest building in China—each skyscraper reflects Lu’s transformation from a construction surveyor into "China's Skyscraper Pioneer." These structures also symbolize Shenzhen’s evolution from a small border town into a global metropolis. Lu Jianxin has received numerous accolades, including the "National May Day Labor Medal", the title of "Model of Central Enterprises", and the "National Model Worker" award. "As a participant and witness of China’s reform and opening-up, I feel immensely proud", Lu remarked. He encouraged students to hold firm to their ideals and beliefs, and to maintain a spirit of perseverance, dedication, precision, focus, and innovation in both their studies and future careers. Face challenges with courage and strive for excellence.
After the lecture, Lu Jianxin interacted enthusiastically with students, answering their questions patiently in a lively atmosphere. “Lu is a witness, builder, and practitioner of the spirit of craftsmanship and labor. From his breakthroughs, innovations, and achievements, I deeply understood the value of decades of perseverance, hard work, and extraordinary effort.” said Lyu Meng, a Class of 2024 student from the School of Management.
