Xu Jianling delivered a speech titled "Believe in the Power of Persistence." On behalf of the university, he extended the warmest congratulations and best wishes to all graduates, hoping they would forge ahead like a fleet of racing boats and stand bravely at the forefront! Over the past three years, the students have diligently pursued their respective fields, adding luster to SZPT with their outstanding achievements. As they part ways, Xu Jianling shared life insights with the graduates—believe in the power of persistence. He noted that the power of persistence stems from an unwavering commitment to one's original aspirations; only by steadily advancing toward set goals can one persevere to see the light beyond the clouds. It also comes from an unyielding will to conquer adversity—often, the tougher the times, the closer to success. Furthermore, it arises from bold innovation that breaks conventions, seizing opportunities and daring to challenge norms to surpass limits and achieve a fulfilling life. Finally, it originates from self-discipline in everyday life, where consistent dedication and passion enrich one's existence. In closing, Xu Jianling offered his blessings: The alma mater will always be your warm harbor; no matter how far you sail, it will light the beacon to watch over you.
Youthful splendor, brilliant future
Students in their new graduation gowns posed for photos.
University leaders presented graduation certificates to all graduates in attendance and took photos with them. This year, the university's graduation gowns have been meticulously redesigned. Building on the conventional graduation attire, the new design incorporates elements of traditional cloud collars and patterns. The bougainvillea motif is subtly presented as a hidden pattern, showcasing intricate craftsmanship within its understated elegance. This design also carries the blessing of "Jin Shi Zhi Yuan" (which conveys a bright future and far-reaching aspirations), reflecting a dual tribute to academic spirit and traditional aesthetics. The pattern innovatively reinterprets the bougainvillea motif from the university emblem. As a symbol of resilience and vibrant blossoming, the bougainvillea's layered petals are transformed into a geometric pattern framework, symbolizing the accumulation of knowledge during a student's academic journey.
This year's graduation robes were designed by Yang Huiru and eight other students from the 2023 class of the Fashion and Apparel Design major at the School of Innovation and Creative Design, under the guidance of two teachers. “We hope to showcase the university's characteristics and spirit through the robes.” Yang Huiru explained that the design team delved into the university's history and culture, extracting the spirit of "advancing in virtue and profession, striving tirelessly" from the university emblem. Combining this with Shenzhen's regional characteristics, they integrated the outline of the bougainvillea into the design, meticulously sketching the pattern onto the graduation gown's stole. To perfectly present the pattern, the team revised the design scheme multiple times; in terms of craftsmanship, they repeatedly compared various techniques such as jacquard and printing, and the final scheme ensures the robes have a substantial texture.
These robes, imbued with ingenious design, evoked memories among the graduates. “This reminds me of the days preparing for the National Vocational Skills Competition. In the training room, we battled day and night for several months, writing code, debugging equipment, optimizing processes, and overcoming challenges like burnt circuit boards and program errors time after time. The 'perseverance' spirit represented by the Bougainvillea is exactly the force that supported us to shine on the competition stage.” Liu Jiankun, a 2025 graduate from the School of Electronic and Communication Engineering, reflected: “Whether we were researching by the library window, accompanied by bougainvillea, or holding group meetings, or going all out on projects at the practical training center, these moments were always closely intertwined with the bougainvillea on campus. This robe is fully loaded with the confidence bestowed by those years of hard work.”
As the ceremony neared its end, everyone stood up to sing "Ode to the Motherland," with resounding voices and majestic momentum, jointly wishing our beautiful motherland a better tomorrow! Simultaneously, the laser "assault boat" sailed toward the stage, symbolizing that our university's 2025 graduates will ride the wind and waves, with boundless prospects.
