On September 23, the 3rd National Vocational Skills Competition of the People’s Republic of China concluded successfully in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Huang Kaitai, a 2024 cohort nursing major from the School of Health and Nursing at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU), competed as a member of Team Guangdong in the Health and Social Care category—a WorldSkills selection event—under the dedicated guidance of instructor Du Yanli.Demonstrating outstanding English communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, solid professional expertise, and excellent on-site adaptability, Huang distinguished himself among competitors from 30 teams nationwide, earning the Bronze Medal in the Health and Social Care category. He was subsequently selected for the national training team, marking SZPU’s first-ever medal in this event and achieving a historic breakthrough for the university.

The Health and Social Care competition is closely aligned with public welfare and social service needs, comprehensively assessing contestants’ capabilities across four key care settings: hospitals, home care, long-term care, and day care. Conducted as an individual competition, the event required participants to complete six care scenarios in collaboration with standardized patients.Each scenario involved a 95-minute intensive assessment, including 20 minutes for care planning, 30 minutes for hands-on operation, and 45 minutes for poster preparation or reflective report writing. The competition rigorously evaluated not only participants’ professional technical skills, but also their communication, empathy, and overall human-centered care competencies.
