Our University’s “Innovative Thinking” Course Wins the 2024 “Outstanding International MOOC Exchange Award” at the International Digital Education Summit

From August 14 to 16, at the 2024 International Digital Education Summit (IEC2024) organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, Shenzhen Polytechnic University’s “Innovative Thinking” course was honored with the“Outstanding International MOOC Exchange Award”.

Associate Professor Wu Wei from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship received the award on behalf of the team.

During the“MOOCs Going Global”award ceremony, Associate Professor Wu Wei from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, who is also the course leader, received the award on behalf of the team, gave a presentation in English about the course to the attending experts and delivered an acceptance speech. Among the 100 high-quality MOOCs provided by China to Thailand, only two courses received this award, marking not only a significant achievement for our university in internationalizing and exporting high-quality courses but also an international recognition of the innovative power of China’s vocational education.

The theme of this year’s summit was“Transformation and Innovation of Lifelong Learning in the Age of AI Education”. The event featured a rich agenda, including keynote speeches, workshops, and forums, with over 800 education administrators and digital education experts from Thailand, China, Russia, the United States, Japan, Indonesia, and other countries participating both online and offline.

During the summit, keynote speeches were delivered by leading institutions and digital project organizations, such as Tsinghua University’s XuetangX, Saint Petersburg University in Russia, Sripatum University in Thailand, Universitas Terbuka in Indonesia, Class Central, and edX. These presentations provided insights into the cutting-edge applications of artificial intelligence in education and teaching. Notably, the workshop “Using Large Language Models as Teaching Assistants”, hosted by Professor Lynn Dickinson from Santa Monica College in the U.S., complemented the innovative teaching methods adopted by the “Innovative Thinking” course.

The summit was broadcast live, allowing participants to witness this significant educational event both online and offline. The live stream further expanded the international influence of our “Innovative Thinking” course.

“Innovative Thinking” is a fundamental required course at our university for both vocational bachelor and associate degree programs. As a core course of the National Vocational Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Teaching Resource Bank, it has previously been awarded the “Golden Course in Employment and Entrepreneurship” by the Ministry of Education of China. The course is dedicated to cultivating students’ innovative thinking patterns and practical innovation skills through a learning process that involves discovering, researching, and solving problems, supported by various tools to complete innovative projects.

Currently, the MOOC hasover 70,000 online learnersdomestically and has been adopted by more than 1,100 educational institutions. As one of China’s high-quality MOOCs for international audiences, it has been selected as a course for the China-Indonesia Global Integration Classroom Project by the Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance. Additionally, the course is available at online education centers in Thailand, Indonesia, and on multiple platforms both domestically and internationally, providing students with a wealth of diverse digital resources, integrated new-format textbooks, and comprehensive learning and tutoring support.
