"Skills Illuminate Youth, Abilities Create the Future!" Recently, the finals of the 2024 World Vocational Colleges Skills Competition came to a close, and Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) achieved remarkable results. SZPU’s 29 teams performed exceptionally, winning a total of 9 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals, placing the university among the top institutions nationwide in both gold and overall medal counts. Additionally, SZPU's teams in “Big Data Applications in Business, Finance, and Taxation,” “Beverage Service,” and “Automobile Troubleshooting (International Group)” advanced to the ranking stage, making it the school with the most entries in this round.
The World Vocational Colleges Skills Competition, formerly known as the National Vocational Colleges Skills Competition, is a public, international vocational skills competition initiated by China’s Ministry of Education, in collaboration with various national ministries and organizations. Since its inception in 2008, the competition has been held for 16 consecutive years. This year, the competition underwent a comprehensive upgrade in team participation, competition content, duration, and scoring criteria. The finals included 42 tracks covering 19 major disciplines and were divided into the preliminary, ranking, and championship rounds.
Facing challenges such as major changes in competition rules and a tight preparation timeline, SZPU mobilized quickly and organized an upgrade briefing to ensure that each team understood the new competition goals, rules, and content. Faculty, coaches, and competitors responded promptly, efficiently pooling resources and dedicating themselves to intensive training around the clock.
From late October to early November, SZPU's 29 teams traveled across the country to participate in the finals. With solid, professional skills, innovative approaches to complex technical problems, and a confident and resilient attitude, SZPU students earned high praise from the judges and brought home 9 gold, 10 silver, and 7 bronze medals, maintaining a leading position in gold medal count nationwide. The gold medals were awarded in 9 categories, including “Big Data Applications in Business, Finance, and Taxation,” “Beverage Service,” “Automobile Troubleshooting (International Group),” “Landscape Design and Construction,” “Intelligent Building Systems Installation and Commissioning,” “Intelligent Aircraft Application Technology,” “Digital Art Design,” “Legal Practice,” and “High-Speed Rail Signal and Passenger Transport Organization.” Three of these entries—“Big Data Applications in Business, Finance, and Taxation,” “Beverage Service,” and “Automobile Troubleshooting (International Group)”—won first place in their respective groups, successfully advancing to the ranking stage.
SZPU has consistently played a vital role as an "incubator" and "accelerator" for regional economic and social development through vocational education. The university continues to promote the integration of “jobs, courses, competitions, and certifications,” focusing on developing students' professional skills, vocational ethics, teamwork, and innovation mindset, thus further enhancing students’ practical abilities and their capacity to apply professional skills to solve real-world problems.
