The Floral Design event was successfully held at the Xili Lake Campus Gymnasium of Xili Campus.
The Floral Design event of the 2024-2025 Guangdong Vocational College Skills Competition, hosted by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and organized by Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU), successfully took place from February 28 to March 2 at the Xili Lake Campus Gymnasium of Xili Campus. The competition brought together 31 teams from vocational colleges across the province, with a total of 123 contestants showcasing their floral artistry. After fierce competition, SZPU’s team members Liu Haimei, Zhang Zihao, Weng Manyi, and Xian Haonan impressed the judges with their outstanding craftsmanship, securing first place with a score of 93.53 and earning a ticket to the national competition.
This year’s event was benchmarked against the previous World Vocational College Skills Competition standards, featuring two core segments: Skills Testing and Comprehensive Presentation. The Skills Testing segment encompassed traditional Chinese floral arrangements and modern floral design, requiring participants to complete eight creative floral modules—including hand-tied bouquets, botanical designs, floral jewelry, and container arrangements—within 240 minutes. This segment assessed competitors’ color coordination, technical proficiency, and cultural interpretation. The Comprehensive Presentation segment introduced a new 10-minute oral defense format without PowerPoint support, evaluating participants’ communication skills and teamwork.
This year’s competition saw significant rule changes, transitioning to a team-based format and incorporating the Comprehensive Presentation segment, placing higher demands on both event organization and competition preparation. The successful hosting of this competition demonstrates the strong organizational capabilities and leadership in floral education of the School of Construction Engineering. Looking ahead, SZPU’s floral design team will represent Guangdong Province in this year’s National Vocational College Skills Competition, continuing to showcase the beauty of craftsmanship through floral artistry.
