On July 1, Jin Lei, Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, visited Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen Polytechnic University for inspection and research. He emphasized the need to thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech delivered at the conference celebrating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, as well as his important statements on education; continue to pursue innovation and forge ahead with determination; advance the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent; and enhance education’s support for and contribution to Shenzhen’s high-quality development.

Jin Lei successively visited Shenzhen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Shenzhen Polytechnic University, gaining an in-depth understanding of university development, scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, enrollment and employment, and conducting on-site visits to the State Key Laboratory of Quantum Functional Materials and BYD Institute of Applied Technology. Jin Lei fully recognized the achievements made by the universities in recent years and expressed hope that they would maintain a vigorous spirit, leverage their strengths in different fields, pursue excellence, promote high-quality development, and make greater contributions to building Shenzhen into a strong city in education, science and technology, and talent.

Jin Lei emphasized the need to firmly uphold the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, integrate ideological and political education throughout the entire process of education and teaching, optimize the collaborative talent cultivation mechanism integrating science and education, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round development in moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical fitness, aesthetic appreciation, and labor skills. He stressed the need to pursue innovation-driven development, strengthen basic research and breakthroughs in cutting-edge technologies, promote the efficient transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements, build high-level teaching and research talent teams, advance the deep integration of innovation, industrial, capital, and talent chains, and continuously foster new quality productive forces. Universities should better support and integrate into urban development, optimize their discipline structures, closely align with Shenzhen’s development needs and social resources, and continuously consolidate a positive and mutually reinforcing relationship with the city. Universities should comprehensively strengthen Party building, implement the president responsibility system under the leadership of Party committees, enhance educational quality and management, and strengthen efforts in areas including graduate employment and entrepreneurship, college entrance examination admissions, and campus safety. Government departments at all levels and relevant authorities should place the development of higher education in a prominent position, strengthen support and safeguards, and make every effort to create a favorable environment for the advancement and development of universities.
