The scene of the competition
On March 27-30, the 2022-2023 Guangdong Vocational College Students Skills Competition – Floral Art Segment, sponsored by Department of Education of Guangdong Province, was successfully held in the sports hall of Xilihu Campus at SZPT. Yang Xinbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of SZPT, supervised the competition and guided the steady progress of the competition. Fifty-five contestants from 28 vocational colleges in the province shared the stage to exchange floralart and skills. Yang Baoyu and Li Tong, two students majoring in landscape architecture design(2020) from the School of Construction Engineering of SZPT, won the first and second place respectively.
In the afternoon of March 27, the opening ceremony of the floral art segment was held in the lecture hall of Guanlongshan Campus. Zhang Zuotai, Vice President of SZPT, Wang Caiyun, Professor of Huazhong Agricultural University and team leader of the expert group of this segment, Sun Wei, Press Spokesman & Deputy Secretary General of China Flower Arrangement Association and chief judge of this segment, and other relevant persons attended the opening ceremony. More than 110 persons, including team leaders, instructors and contestants, were present at the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was chaired by Xie Lijuan, Dean of the School of Construction Engineering.
Zhang Zuotai, on behalf of SZPT, extended a warm welcome to all the guests attending the opening ceremony, and made sincere greetings to all the participating teams. He said that holding the skills competition for students of vocational colleges is to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on the work of skilled talents, to better promote the spirit of model workers, labor and craftsman in the whole society, and to train more highly skilled talents and artisans for our country. As a pioneer of the vocational education development in China, SZPT has always attached importance to the cultivation of students’ vocational skills, and vigorouslycarried forward the idea of becoming a skilled talents to serve the country. As the host of this segment, SZPT will do its best to provide a good communication platform for floral art education and a good environment for the competition.
Sun Wei said in his speech that the floral art has a long history. Floral art is the process of creating, discovering and awakening beauty. This segment was based on the rules of the floral art event of the World Skills Competition, and focused on testing the basic skills and creative ability of the contestants in floral art operation. This segment covered two directions: traditional Chinese flower arrangement, and modern floral art. The assessment contents included knowledge and skills in respect of floral art style, flower structure, shape design, color configuration, flower material arrangement and processing, flower material preservation and so on. This segment offered a total of nine items to be completed in three days, each of which took more than 60 minutes, and part of the modules took 180 minutes, design to test the students’ mental endurance, strain ability, and on-the-spot performance.
It is reported that this segment invited 4 Chinese floral art masters to serve as technical instructors and judges, and arranged more than 30 student volunteers to participate in the service.
