SZPT Exhibition Stand Made a Stunning Appearance at ICIF

Modern design makes traditional culture “fashionable”

Date: Jun 12, 2023

The works at the exhibition covered four major categories: cultural and creative products, arts and crafts, jewelry design, and digital animation

On June 7-11, the 19th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair was held at Bao’an Convention and Exhibition Center. As part of this important exhibition, the exhibition hall of SZPT was set up in the Cultural and Tourism Consumption Pavilion· Belt and Road International Hall (Hall 13), displaying a series of exquisite works created by our teachers and students.

SZPT President Xu Jianling visited the exhibition stand

Coordinated by the Scientific Research Office and organized by the Institute of Cultural and Creative Products of SZPT, our exhibition stand collected more than 300 works from teachers and students, covering four categories: cultural and creative products, arts and crafts, jewelry design, and digital animation. Among them, the design part of cultural and creative products included works related to campus culture, intangible heritage and rural revitalization.

Fang Yan Shen Shou

Handfuls of traditional hand-woven fans with strange characters, such as “Ying Hu” and “Ke Ku Lye”, attracted everyone’s attention. These are the transliteration of Chaoshan dialect, among which “Ying Hu” means “be sure”, and “Ke Ku Lye” means “hard work”. The design team of “Fang Yan Shen Shou” selected the pronunciation and tone of Chaoshan dialect, and combined with traditional culture, the image of divine beasts and the spirit of Chaoshan, created a series of cultural and creative works. Chen Zibo, the person in charge, told us that born in Chaoshan, he grew up under the influence of dialects, myths and divine beasts. They desire to repackage the ancient cultural elements and production techniques through modern design methods, so as to contribute to the inheritance of Chaoshan dialect and traditional culture.

Five Animals

Five Animals was inspired by the Five Animals Exercise, a national intangible cultural heritage. The creative team developed a traditional Chinese sports themed intangible digital creative work by combining the traditional moves with the function of strengthening the body and the scenes in daily life, and adding the original IP images of tigers, deer, bears, apes and birds. “We designed a number of different small cards, each corresponding to a move from the Five Animals Exercise. By inserting the card into the box, and turning the handle, you can see the dynamic version of the move through the red acrylic plate filter,” Zhang Zhuoxin, the person in charge, said, “Like the action of the tiger paw, it is the ‘Hupu’ move in the Five Animals Exercise. We combine it with the garbage dumping in daily life, so that everyone can do some simple actions to relieve fatigue. We desire to make the moves in the Five Animals Exercise younger, so that young people can know more about the Five Animals Exercise, and are willing to contact and learn the Five Animals Exercise in real life.”

Nye Shu · She Says

The “Nye Shu · She Says” cultural and creative products from Yongzhou of Hunan province appeared again at the fair this year. The teacher Song Haiyan from the School of Communication Engineering led the students of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Innovation Club to extract the styling features and regional decorative patterns of Nye Shu characters and make handbags, silk scarves and other works by hand, demonstrating the unique charm of the design for activation and regeneration of intangible cultural heritage. Through project-based teaching and cooperation with studios and enterprises, the college has jointly cultivated cultural and creative talents for intangible cultural heritage. “With the platform of the fair, the works of students and teachers can be seen by more people, and more enterprises can participate in the cooperation, forming a good chain,” Song Haiyan said.

“Lychee Turns Red”, “Youth in Bloom” and “A String”

In addition, the IP image design of agricultural products “Litchi Turns Red” also attracted the audience’s attention. The lychee IP images have a unique style, resulting in a series of cultural and creative products of Shenzhen seaside holiday culture and street trend culture, and the vivid images spread Shenzhen city culture and lychee culture. The exhibition stand also displayed “Youth in Bloom” cultural and creative products with Bougainvillea as the main element, which recently won the Silver Award of Fashion Design at the Shenzhen Global Design Awards, highlighting its excellent design level. “A String” handmade ceramic art home series also showcased the unique charm of fashion home products.

There was a steady stream of visitors

The exhibited works showed the unique ideas and exquisite skills of the creators, as well as the college’s attention to and support for the cultural and creative industries. By participating in this exhibition, the teachers and students of SZPT had the opportunity to exchange and cooperate with experts in the industries, increase their professional knowledge, and expand their vision and ideas of personal creation. SZPT will continue to be committed to cultivating more outstanding cultural and creative talents, and make greater contributions to promoting the innovation and development of China’s cultural industries.
