Welcoming the Year of the Snake with auspicious blessings and enduring fortune, the university’s 2025 Spring Festival Reception was held on January 28, Lunar New Year’s Eve, on the third floor of Liuyuan Restaurant at the Xili Lake Campus. Themed “A Year of Good Fortune and Endless Vitality,” the event brought together more than 70 faculty and students who remained on campus. Xu Jianling, Deputy Party Secretary and President of the university, joined them in a joyous gathering to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one, celebrating the festival in a warm and festive atmosphere.

At 10 a.m., the Spring Festival Reception commenced in a lively and celebratory atmosphere. The venue was adorned with festive decorations, exuding the joyous spirit of the Lunar New Year. Faculty and students eagerly engaged in activities such as guessing riddles and writing Chinese New Year couplets. Through the fun and excitement of guessing riddles, they experienced the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture, while the delicate strokes of their calligraphy conveyed heartfelt New Year wishes.

University Leaders Participate in Dumpling-Making with Faculty and Students, experiencing festive traditions, and sharing moments of reunion. International students enthusiastically learned dumpling-making techniques, expressing that this was an unforgettable Chinese New Year experience for them, filled with warmth and a sense of home.

Showcasing Talent and Joy, Celebrating the New Year Together

A variety of vibrant performances brought the Spring Festival Reception to its climax.

International students from the China-Africa Cooperation Program opened the performances with the Chinese song“Small Town Summer” (《小城夏天》). The upbeat and heartwarming melody reflected their deep affection for China and highlighted the cross-cultural friendships and exchanges fostered at the university.

The students staying on campus delivered a wonderful performance of song and dance.

Following this, the China-Africa Cooperation Program students presented “Hommage à Dezy Champion,” a dance and song performance with distinct African characteristics. This song, filled with reverence and enthusiasm, not only showcased the cultural essence of their homeland but also paid tribute to the Côte d’Ivoire student team from SZPU, who won the championship at the 9th African Vocational Skills Challenge in September 2024. Their performance expressed deep gratitude for the university’s support and training.

The Kazakh folk-danceKara Zhorga, performed by students from the School of Health and Nursing who remained on campus, brought the atmosphere to a climax. Originating from the Kazakh phrase meaning “black trotting horse,” this traditional dance features light and agile movements that depict Kazakh herders galloping across the vast grasslands, expressing their deep love for the open plains and reverence for nature.

A Festive Feast Warms the Heart and Strengthens Holiday Bonds

University President Xu Jianling delivered a New Year’s speech.

In his address, Xu Jianling extended sincere New Year greetings on behalf of the university’s Party Committee to all faculty and students who remained on campus. He also reflected on the remarkable achievements made by the university over the past year. He highlighted 2024 as a year of deepening vocational undergraduate education, during which the entire university community worked together to achieve significant breakthroughs in Party-building, talent cultivation, research and innovation, and international collaboration. Looking ahead, he emphasized that in the new year, the university would continue advancing reforms, leading high-quality vocational undergraduate education, and playing a greater role in China’s drive to strengthen education.

After his speech, Xu Jianling distributed festive gift packages to the attending faculty and students and took group photos with them. In the heartwarming and lively atmosphere, everyone enjoyed a traditional reunion dinner, savoring delicious food, sharing New Year aspirations, and exchanging best wishes.
