On March 8, the on-site finals of the Guangdong Division of the 2nd National College Student Career Planning Competition, themed “Building Dreams for a Bright Future, Planning for a Thriving Career,” were held in Zhuhai, organized by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province. Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) students achieved outstanding results: Cheng Haoran from the School of Undergraduate Education and Wen Tian from the School of Artificial Intelligence each won a gold medal in the Vocational Education Growth Track, while Ma Qing from the School of Business English secured a silver medal in the Vocational Education Employment Track.
Thanks to their outstanding presentations and composure, the three contestants were highly praised by the judges. Their clear career goals, well-structured planning, and solid professional skills set them apart. Notably, Cheng Haoran ranked first in his group and received high commendation from the panel. He was also invited to showcase his achievements on stage as a student representative during the award ceremony. “I’m grateful for the platform the competition has provided,” Cheng said. “In the future, I will continue to improve my professional abilities, refine my understanding of the industry through hands-on experience, and enhance my competitiveness in the job market to lay a solid foundation for my career development.”
Organized by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Division of the competition officially launched in October 2024, attracting widespread participation from universities and colleges across the province. A total of 1.2 million students signed up. After rigorous evaluations through university-level selection and provincial online reviews, 154 students advanced to the on-site provincial finals.
To implement the competition within SZPU, the Admissions and Career Services Office (ACSO) launched the university's internal selection round in October 2024. The call for entries received 7,895 student registrations, representing a 400% increase from the 1,556 participants in the first edition. Following multiple selection rounds—including departmental preliminaries, expert reviews, and on-site finals—three students were ultimately chosen to compete in the provincial finals. Throughout the process, ACSO provided ongoing support and training, organizing over 20 coaching sessions on topics such as competition orientation, case analysis, preparation of online review materials, and roadshow rehearsals, totaling more than 100 hours of guidance. Leaders and mentors from the School of Undergraduate Education, the School of Artificial Intelligence, and the School of Business English offered invaluable support, promptly mobilizing resources and coordinating with industry experts to coach the contestants.
The national finals of the 2nd National College Student Career Planning Competition are scheduled to take place in April in Changsha, Hunan Province. SZPU’s ACSO will continue collaborating with relevant academic departments to prepare intensively for the finals, aiming for even greater success on the national stage.
