On May 29, the 12th Guangdong University Games concluded successfully. After 22 days of fierce competition, the delegation from Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) achieved outstanding results, securing 20 gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze medals—a total of 51 medals. SZPU topped Group C in gold medals, total medals, and overall team score. In addition, the team received the “Outstanding Organization Award” and the “Sportsmanship Award”, fully demonstrating the strength and spirit of SZPU athletics. He Li, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, attended the closing ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the university.
This year, SZPU sent 12 teams to compete across events including wushu, swimming, aerobics, and track and field. Compared to the previous edition of the Games, the total medal count increased by 31.37%. Since its founding, SZPU has participated in 8 editions of the Guangdong University Games (1999–2025), securing first place in overall team score in six of them, while also topping the gold medal and total medal tallies. These achievements reflect the athletes’ relentless training and perseverance, the coaches’ tailored and meticulous instruction, and are a vivid embodiment of the university’s commitment to advancing its “integration of sports and education” strategy.
SZPU has consistently infused the values of sportsmanship into its talent cultivation process. Through the development of first-class sports facilities, the implementation of a campus-wide club-based physical education system, and the promotion of signature sports such as basketball and wushu, the university has established a unique “Four-Engine Sports Development Model”: club-based instruction, integrated research and competition, high-performance teams, and efficient management and support. This model encourages widespread student participation in regular physical activity and continuously improves students’ physical health.
This year’s remarkable performance at the 12th Guangdong University Games not only set new records for SZPU athletics, but also injected strong momentum into its pursuit of becoming a world-class vocational university, exemplifying the university’s ethos of “Virtue and Competence, Self-Reliance and Perseverance”. Looking ahead, SZPU will continue to promote holistic development through sports and culture, helping more students achieve health and personal growth through physical activity, and contributing to the national effort of building a strong sporting nation.
