On September 12, the 2025 Freshman Opening Ceremony of Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) was held at the gymnasium of the Xili Campus. Xu Jianling, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President, He Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, and Vice Presidents Li Yue and Zhang Zuotai attended the ceremony. Heads of secondary colleges and functional departments, teacher representatives, and over 2,700 2025 freshman representatives participated in the event. Each college set up live-streaming sub-venues, allowing freshmen to watch the ceremony online synchronously. The ceremony was hosted by Vice President Li Xiaoyuan.
Admission Quality Reaches New Heights
This year, 10,108 new students joined the SZPU family, embarking on a wonderful and vibrant campus life. It is reported that in 2025, SZPU’s vocational program admissions continued to lead among similar institutions, with an undergraduate admission rate of 98.6%. Undergraduate admission score lines for all categories steadily increased, with the highest score in the physics category in Guangdong Province at 617, exceeding the special control line by 83 points, and the lowest at 566, exceeding the special control line by 32 points. All candidates admitted in the history category, recruited for the first time, exceeded the special control line. Admission scores in eight out-of-province recruitment regions all surpassed local special control lines.

At 2:30 p.m., the ceremony officially began with all teachers and students singing the national anthem. After introducing the freshman award recipients, Xu Jianling presented awards to the scholarship recipients’ representatives. Among the 2025 freshmen, 7 received the Special Inspirational Scholarship, and 166 received the Outstanding Inspirational Scholarship.
Faculty and Student Representatives Share Visions for the New Journey
Subsequently, vocational freshman representative Dai Penghui spoke, sharing her journey as a new student in stomatology. She emphasized that solid skills are more important than academic credentials, expressed her reverence and sense of mission for the medical profession, and called on everyone to embrace patriotism, hone professional skills, and grow together. Undergraduate freshman representative Lin Gangming spoke, having been admitted to the Electronic Information Engineering Technology Experimental Class with a score of 617. He encouraged students to value practice, embrace exploration, and dare to innovate, expressing confidence that at SZPU, they could truly apply what they learn to achieve personal and national development. Alumni representative Tan Tianyu, a 2022 graduate of the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, reflected on his student days and advised younger students to both delve into technical details and keep an eye on industry frontiers, shining brightly through hard work. Teacher Chen Qiuxia from the School of Artificial Intelligence welcomed the 2025 freshmen to SZPU, a university that resonates with industry and encourages innovation! She hoped students would learn self-discipline, set goals, grow comprehensively, cherish time, dare to try, and write their youthful dreams through hard work.

He reviewed the university’s development history, noting that over its 32 years since establishment, SZPU has consistently upheld the spirit of the Special Economic Zone, adhered to integrity and innovation, continuously enhanced its educational capabilities, and maintained industry-education integration to provide top-tier support for industry and serve national and regional innovation development. He encouraged freshmen to firmly pursue the path of “achieving success through skills and serving the country with skills” on Shenzhen’s fertile ground for innovation, to practice SZPU’s academic ethos of “diligent learning, thoughtful reflection, discerning judgment, and resolute action”, to refine their skills, cultivate a craftsman’s spirit, forge strong character, and strive to become “future craftsmen” resonating with national strategies and the development of the era, contributing to the great cause of building a strong nation and national rejuvenation.
School Anthem Release Heralds a New Future

The release ceremony for the school anthem Future in Our Grasp was held during the opening ceremony. The ceremony, themed “Technology Empowers the Future, Spirit Passes on Inheritance”, unfolded through four segments—“Opening, Release, Pursuit, and Celebration”—incorporating AI robot interactions and a full audience sing-along, vividly interpreting the profound meaning of Future in Our Grasp. “This grasp is the passing of the torch of responsibility; this grasp is the resonance of faith in creating the future!” The robot “Shen Xiao Zhi” joined hands with Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President Xu Jianling and student representatives, with the venue illuminated by lights, marking the official release of the school anthem.

It is reported that the school anthem Future in Our Grasp was written by Tian Di, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Writers Association, and composed by Peng Zhen, a member of the China Musicians Association and Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Musicians Association. The lyrics center on the theme of “serving the country with skills, building dreams with craftsmanship”, incorporating landmark elements and cultural symbols such as “Xili Lake” and “craftsman spirit”, with a warm and vibrant melody that fully highlights the characteristics of vocational education and Shenzhen’s innovative spirit. The song’s creation took six months, undergoing multiple rounds of solicitation, in-depth discussions, repeated revisions, and meticulous refinement, ultimately presenting a musical calling card exclusive to SZPU members, serving as a core cultural symbol that unites faculty and student emotions and embodies the SZPU spirit. Currently, the school anthem Future in Our Grasp has been launched on SZPU’s various official platforms.
At the end of the release ceremony, units and individual representatives who made outstanding contributions to the creation of the school anthem were commended. Subsequently, all faculty and students stood and recited the school motto “Advancing Virtue and Industry, Persevering Relentlessly” three times, with resounding momentum. The ceremony concluded with a full audience singing Ode to the Motherland, with faculty and students waving the five-star red flag, collectively wishing for the prosperity of the motherland and the thriving development of the university with sincere hearts.
