Chinese Language Courses

Since 2004, Shenzhen Polytechnic University has begun to recruit foreign students in China, offering Elementary Chinese Course, intermediate Chinese courses and advanced Chinese courses systematically, attracting foreign students from more than 50 countries and regions who are interested in Chinese language and culture and Chinese + Vocational Education, and more than 2000 foreign students graduated from Shenzhen Polytechnic University.and It was qualified as an online test center for the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) in 2012.

To meet diverse individual needs, SZPU has developed a series of practical, in-depth courses, including the Chinese language courses, special training courses, economic management courses, and socio-cultural experiences based on the teaching goal of “teaching for substantial results and practical use”. Every overseas student studying here will find courses which provides suitable preparation for their new life in China. Chinese language courses are medium-term and long-term courses arranged by semester (18 weeks) to help students acquire and improve their language skills in Chinese. The courses are designed into three different level.

I.Duration

Spring Semester: from March to July.

Autumn Semester: from September to December.

II.Schedule

From Monday to Fridayfrom 8: 30-12:00 or 14:00-17:00

III.Fee

Tuition Fee :7000RMB per semester (18 weeks)

Application fee: 200RMB

IV.Registration time

Spring semester: December 1st to January 1st

Autumn semester: June 1st to July 1st

V.Course of Different Levels

Elementary Chinese Course

Elementary courses include Chinese pronunciation, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, etc. helping students to gain command of the pronunciation of Chinese, rules governing phonetic transcription, basic Chinese grammar, basic sentence patterns, and enable students to write Chinese characters, hold everyday conversations for the purpose of basic communication, and write simple words or sentences with simple sentence patterns. The second semester will focus on students’ comprehension of basic Chinese grammar, accurate usage of the grammar and sentence syntax learnt, and improving their listening, speaking, and linguistic competence while writing simple sentences. After this stage, students should have a vocabulary of about 1,800 frequently-used words.

Intermediate Chinese Language Courses

These courses are offered to students who have a vocabulary of 1,800 Chinese words and seek further competence. Building on their primary stage studies, this stage will lead them to further improve their ability to listen, speak, read, and write in Chinese; To enrich their Chinese vocabulary; and develop their abilities in distinguishing and using synonyms and homonyms. The courses aim to improve their Chinese reading ability, thus enabling them to understand articles written with a more complex language structure. These courses also practice their listening and speaking skills while communicating so that they can not only produce near-native simple sentences, express ideas in longer sentences but also raise their ability of expression up to intermediate level.

Advanced Chinese Language Courses

These courses are applicable to students who have a vocabulary of 3,500 Chinese characters. Study at this stage is the developing phase after the intermediate stage. The students' listening, speaking, reading and writing ability in Chinese will be greatly improved through studying after this stage. In terms of writing, students are required to gain full understanding and awareness of the meaning and tone implied in conversations; in terms of spoken Chinese, students are required to describe and discuss issues which are logical, clear in meaning with relatively fluency; in terms of reading, students should have a full grasp of written grammatical structures and complicated sentence patterns; in terms of writing, students are required to write short passages demonstrating awareness and understanding of specific topics, a wide range of vocabulary and native usage patterns.
