Institute of Urban Ecology and Environmental Technology,established in May 2020, wasdeveloped based on the major group of Urban ecology and environment in the School of Materials & Environmental Engineering, Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU). The goal is to support the development of world-class urban ecological and environmental professional construction. By introducing or cultivating high-level scientific research teams and strengthening cooperation between the college and enterprises, it will establish an open technology innovation platform with environmental characteristics. We focus on the research and technology service fields of 1) Solid waste disposal site restoration, 2) Water pollution & its control, 3) Industrial gas treatment, 4) Technologies for the emerging pollutants in drinking water treatment, 5) Detection, monitoring, and remediation of soil contamination, 6) Detection and monitoring of marine pollution. The value of research equipment is over $12 million.Based on the platform, the international independent third-party testing laboratory has been built.It has successfully obtained CMA (China Inspection Body and Laboratory Mandatory Approval) and CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment) qualifications. It can provide enterprises and society with the broad support of technological innovation, product development, and testing services.

We are committed to becoming one of the most important research and development bases, training Camps and technical service platforms in Shenzhen for ecological environment restoration, solid waste disposal and resource utilization. The major research fields include, butarenot limited to, treatment and resource utilization of domestic garbage, rapid stabilization of landfill & remediation of groundwater pollution, remediation of contaminated soil in landfill, comprehensive treatment of odor pollution of the refuse, treatment of refractory organic wastewater from landfill leachate, treatment & reuse of heavy metal wastewater, safety control technology of drinking water, etc.

We bring in a group of talents, including full-time researchers, postdoctoral students, and research assistants from Princeton University, China Academy of Environmental Sciences, Hong Kong University of Sciences and Technology, Tsinghua University, and other well-known institutions. Team members as authors received over 7 National Natural Science Foundation (NSF) of China funding, 3 Guangdong Province government-sponsored research funds, 30 Shenzhen government projects, and more than 60 commercial research funding. The budget of funding was over $2.8 million. More than 70 papers, including 44 SCI journal papers, have been published. We will build a high-level research team of around 30 people consisting of prominent part-time experts, the major group of Urban ecology and environment, full-time researchers, and postdoctoral students in 3 years.
