Our University and Hong Kong’s Hong Kong College of Technology Hold National Flag Raising Ceremony

Date: Dec 4, 2024

The event was held at the Liuxian Dong Sports Field on the Xili campus.

On the morning of November 16, our university, in collaboration with the faculty and students of Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT), held a national flag raising ceremony at the Liuxian Dong Sports Field on our Xili campus. The event was attended by Mr. Gong Deliang, Third-Level Investigator from the Education and Science Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chan Cheuk-hay, President of HKCT and member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as well as Xu Jianling, Deputy Party Secretary and President of our university. Over 200 participants attended, including the flag-raising team from HKCT and students from our Telecommunications College Youth Leadership Class.

This is the second edition of the "Raising the Flag Together" series, following last year’s "Raising the Same Flag, Drawing a Shared Circle of Unity." Our university has once again partnered with HKCT to organize this event. The two institutions use the national flag as a bond to build bridges of communication, and vocational education as a platform for exchange. Together, we work hand-in-hand with youth from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong to tangibly, emotionally, and effectively strengthen the sense of belonging to the Chinese national community.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, our students performed a poetry recital titled "In a Pomegranate, I Saw My Country," passionately expressing the deep meaning of unity, with Chinese people embracing each other like the seeds of a pomegranate—closely bound together in a "unified heart." This was followed by a joint chorus of "Sing for the Motherland" by students from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Together, they raised and passed a large national flag, bringing the event to a climax.

“As one of the first colleges in Hong Kong to raise the Five-Star Red Flag, patriotism has been practiced at HKCT for over 70 years,” said Chan Cheuk-hay, President of HKCT and member of the National Committee of the CPPCC. He was appointed as an honorary professor at our university and gave a patriotic education lecture titled"My Path to Patriotism." This lecture was attended by students from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, who joined together for a shared ideological class, internalizing patriotism in their hearts and externalizing it through actions.

This two-day exchange event between Shenzhen and Hong Kong youth included a series of activities such as theBay Area Youth Music Concert, theBeyond Blue Aesthetic Education Workshop, and visits to training rooms. These activities promoted broad communication, full exchanges, and deep integration between the youth of the two regions, strengthening the sense of connection that Hong Kong and Macau youth have for their motherland.

During the event, our university also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HKCT to deepen cooperation in areas such as talent development, scientific research innovation, and skills training.
