Symposium on the Development and Application of New-Form Nationally Planned Textbooks for Vocational Education Held at SZPU

From November 15 to 16, the Symposium on the Development and Application of New-Form Nationally Planned Textbooks for Vocational Education was held at Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU). The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Curriculum and Textbook Research, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and SZPU.Zeng Tianshan, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Institute of Curriculum and Textbook Research, Feng Wei, Member of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Education Working Committee, Party Group Member and Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and Xu Jianling, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of SZPU, attended the symposium and delivered opening remarks. Representatives from provincial and municipal education authorities, vocational institutions, teaching and research organizations, publishing houses, and related media outlets from across the country participated in the event.

During the keynote session, experts from the Institute of Curriculum and Textbook Research, Shenzhen Polytechnic University, Changchun Automobile Vocational and Technical University, East China Normal University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, the MOE Center for Vocational Education Development, the China National Institute of Education Sciences, the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences, Higher Education Press, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., the Peng Cheng Laboratory, Chongqing Vocational College of Transportation, and Beihang University delivered presentations on topics including international experience, Chinese practices, diversified development models, and application evaluation of new-form textbooks for vocational education.

In the thematic discussion sessions, faculty representatives from Shenzhen Polytechnic University, Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry, Zhejiang Mechanical & Electrical Vocational and Technical University, Changsha Social Work College, and Hunan Mechanical & Electrical Polytechnic presented case studies on the development and application of digital textbooks. Meanwhile, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Shandong Vocational College of Commerce, Qingdao Technical College, Beijing Institute of Economics and Management, and Hebei Vocational University of Technology shared case studies on loose-leaf textbook development and use.Case studies on workbook-style textbooks were presented by Wuxi Vocational University, Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce, Xuchang Vocational Technical College, Xinxiang Vocational and Technical College, Beijing Commercial School, and Higher Education Press, followed by expert commentary.

In his remarks, Xu Jianling noted that SZPU has long attached great importance to textbook development and management. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the university has developed 57 digital textbooks and 193 featured teaching resource projects, with 86 textbooks selected as nationally planned vocational education textbooks. SZPU has also established five national-level professional teaching resource repositories, launched 20 national-level online open courses for vocational education, and won five National Textbook Development Awards, including one Grand Prize, one First Prize, and three Second Prizes. He emphasized that, taking this symposium as a new starting point, the university will accelerate exploration of a new pathway for vocational education textbook development grounded in industry–education integration, driven by digitalization, and connected through internationalization, contributing insight and strength to the high-quality development of modern vocational education.

Zeng Tianshan delivered the concluding remarks, affirming SZPU’s achievements in the development and application of nationally planned new-form textbooks for vocational education, and expressing appreciation for the successful organization of the symposium.

The symposium provided an important platform for experience exchange and results sharing in the application of nationally planned new-form textbooks, playing a significant role in further enhancing textbook utilization effectiveness and better supporting the improvement of vocational education teaching quality.
