The unveiling ceremony was held in Mingde Building, Liuxiandong Campus

On July 5, the unveiling ceremony of Shenzhen Branch of Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University, a key research base for humanities and social sciences in regular colleges and universities under the Ministry of Education, was held in Mingde Building, Liuxiandong Campus. Liu Zhentian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Education of Xiamen University, and Xu Jianling, President of SZPT, attended the unveiling ceremony. The leaders, teachers and 21 doctoral students from the Institute of Education of Xiamen University, and the heads and teacher representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Scientific Research, and the Institute of Technical and Vocational Education attended the ceremony. The unveiling ceremony was presided over by Vice President Li Yue.

Liu Zhentian introduced in his speech that the Institute of Education of Xiamen University has created a number of firsts in the development of higher education disciplines in China: The first specialized research institution with higher education as the research object, the first authorized unit for the master’s degree of higher education and the first authorized unit for the doctor’s degree of higher education, the first unit for the national key discipline of higher education and the national “985 Project” innovation base for higher education research. The Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University, founded on the support of the Institute of Education, is the only key research base of humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education in China specializing in higher education. The Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University and Shenzhen Polytechnic jointly build the Shenzhen Branch of Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University to carry out educational research cooperation and graduate joint training, which will further promote the sharing of resources, open up new research fields, and jointly improve the research ability and research level of both sides, making new contributions to the cause of higher education and vocational education in China.

In his speech, Xu Jianling pointed out that the Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University, a key research base of humanities and social sciences in regular colleges and universities under the Ministry of Education, enjoys a high reputation in China’s higher education research. The establishment of the Shenzhen Branch will greatly promote the cooperation of secondary vocational education and regular high school education, and continuously improve the research level of higher education and vocational education and the quality of talent training. Shenzhen Branch should deeply grasp the historical background of China’s social transformation and “Chinese experience”, strengthen the research of China’s local issues of higher education and vocational education under the global background, promote the local growth of higher education theories, and form the innovative theory and practice path of China’s higher education and vocational education in the new era; should set up research teams to carry out special research in key areas such as the vocational undergraduate education research, the development trend of higher education under the background of digital economy, the integration of industry and education and the contribution degree of higher education, the reform of teaching evaluation model of higher education, and the international experience of higher education development; and meanwhile, should carry out comprehensive cooperation in the construction of academic journals, academic visits and exchanges, and joint training of postgraduates.

After the unveiling ceremony, a report meeting on the first doctoral research activities of Shenzhen Branch was held. At the report meeting, the doctoral research team was divided into three groups, and reported the preliminary results of research activities under the titles of “Research on the Development of Integration of Industry and Education in Shenzhen Polytechnic”, “How to Build a Highland for Vocational Undergraduate Talents in Shenzhen Polytechnic”, and “From College to University: How to Hold High the Banner of Vocational and Technical University in Shenzhen Polytechnic”. The doctoral research team will further deepen and improve the research results, and jointly carry out in-depth research on the development of Shenzhen Polytechnic with the Shenzhen Branch.

Previously, on June 28 - July 5, a total of 21 doctoral students from the Institute of Education of Xiamen University visited SZPT for a week of research activities. Yang Xinbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of SZPT, met with Liu Zhentian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Education of Xiamen University, and Bie Dunrong, President of the Institute, and had an in-depth exchange on the cooperation between SZPT and the Center for Higher Education Development of Xiamen University.
