On September 8, the founding conference of Shenzhen Polytechnic University was held in the gymnasium of Xili Lake Campus. This is the first vocational university established on the basis of high-quality “dual high” schools in China since the implementation of the Setting Standards for Undergraduate Level Vocational Schools (Trial) issued by the Ministry of Education.

The predecessor of Shenzhen Polytechnic University was Shenzhen Polytechnic founded in 1993. Since its founding, by adhering to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, deeply connecting with the needs of the State and Shenzhen, following the motto of “advancing with both morality and expertise, striving for self-improvement”, and constantly innovating the education concepts, school-running systems and mechanisms, and talent training modes, SZPT has created lots of “No. 1” in China’s higher vocational education and trained more than 180,000 high-quality technical and technical talents. SZPT’s comprehensive strength ranks among the top of similar colleges and universities in China, and is hailed as a “banner” of China’s higher vocational education. In 2019, SZPT was selected as one of the first 10 Grade-A high-level school construction units under the “Dual High Program” of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

On June 6, the Ministry of Education approved the founding of Shenzhen Polytechnic University through resource integration based on Shenzhen Polytechnic. It is hoped that Guangdong Province will, in accordance with the national deployment of undergraduate vocational education, strengthen its guidance and support for Shenzhen Polytechnic University to focus on connotation development, adhere to the orientation of vocational education, and maintain the attributes and characteristics of vocational education, and further develop its distinctive characteristics and level, making greater contributions to the economic construction and social development of Guangdong Province.

In his speech at the founding conference, Yang Xinbin, Secretary of the Party Committee, reviewed SZPT’s achievements over the past 30 years and profoundly summarized the “success code” of its development. He said that facing the future, the university will build a wonderful example of ideological and political education for young people in the Bay Area and a highland for training high-level technical skills, and help Shenzhen build a world-leading advanced manufacturing center. The whole university will carry out the “second entrepreneurship” with a return-to-zero mindset, and forge ahead to become a “world-class university with Chinese characteristics”.

This year, for the first time, Shenzhen Polytechnic University enrolled 200 undergraduate students in electronic information engineering technology, modern communication engineering, artificial intelligence engineering technology, intelligent manufacturing engineering technology, new energy vehicle engineering technology, and digital animation. The first undergraduate program is all targeted at undergraduate enrollment in Guangdong Province. All the scores of physics majors have exceeded the special control line of Guangdong Province, with the minimum admission score of 555, which is 16 more than the special control line. The university’s undergraduate construction has achieved a good start.

At present, the university has 15 major groups, including 6 full-time undergraduate majors and 88 full-time junior college majors.
