The opening ceremony site

On September 20, the Opening Ceremony of SZPU and CityU Joint Programs of Software Technology and Modern Logistics Management 2023 was held in Mingde Building, Liuxiandong Campus. Randy Frisch, President of City University of Seattle, and Xu Jianling, President of Shenzhen Polytechnic University, and related department heads of the two universities attended the ceremony, which was chaired by Li Luya, a teacher from the School of Management.

In his speech, Xu Jianling said it had been three years since President Randy Frisch’s last visit. In the past three years, Shenzhen Polytechnic University has grasped the major historical opportunities driven by the State’s great emphasis on the development of vocational education and the “dual zone” initiative of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Zone, and achieved a series of landmark development achievements. In June this year, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to become Shenzhen Polytechnic University, starting a new journey of vocational undergraduate construction. This year is the 12^th year of cooperation between the two universities, with the largest size of enrollment over the past years. The university will continue to fully support the construction of cooperation projects with City University of Seattle to further deepen the friendly and cooperative partnership. He hoped that the students should adhere to the motto of “advancing with both morality and expertise, striving for self-improvement”, cherish their youth, strive for success, establish lofty aspirations, cultivate an enterprising spirit, keep firm, and grow into “skilled craftsmen” and “great artisans” who can support “Made in China” and “Created in China” at an earlier date.

Randy Frisch said, “We are proud to partner with Shenzhen Polytechnic University to develop international and highly qualified talents. Using a practitioner/scholar faculty model, the program will provide students with the latest knowledge in their field of expertise. At the same time, it will help students build bridges with the world and deepen cultural exchanges.” He extended a warm welcome to all the students of the Sino-US joint class, and said that the students will be taught by excellent teachers from both China and the United States, and will have the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree at City University of Seattle in the United States. He hoped students could believe in their own wisdom and courage, expand their horizons, enrich their knowledge, and learn skills that would help them in their future careers.

Then, Zhang Qiqi, a student from the School of Artificial Intelligence, spoke as a representative of the freshmen. She thanked City University of Seattle and Shenzhen Polytechnic University for providing a broad learning platform and further study opportunities, and expressed that she would study hard to improve her professional skills and overall quality. Zhang Zeyan from the School of Management spoke on behalf of the teachers. She began with the seven words “self-discipline, self-reliance, self-care, self-study, self-improvement, self-reflection and self-confidence”, encouraging everyone to improve and develop themselves, do the right thing at the right time, and eventually become that “great self”.

At the end of the ceremony, the two sides presented souvenirs to each other and took a group photo.
