On September 20, the opening ceremony of Grade 2023 for the major of modern logistics management and the major of software technology under cooperation between City University of Seattle and SZPU was held in Mingde Building, Liuxiandong Campus. Randy Frisch, President of City University of Seattle, and Xu Jianling, President of SZPU, attended the ceremony. Leaders from related departments of City University of Seattle and SZPU participated in the activity. The ceremony was chaired by Li Luya, a teacher from the School of Management.
Xu Jianling said in his speech that it had been three years since President Randy Frisch visited Shenzhen Polytechnic University last time. In the past three years, Shenzhen Polytechnic University grasped the historical opportunities brought by the State’s great emphasis on the development of vocational education, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Zone, and made a range of landmark development achievements. In June this year, Shenzhen Polytechnic was approved by the Ministry of Education to become Shenzhen Polytechnic University, marking the beginning of a new journey of vocational undergraduate construction. This year is the twelfth year of cooperation between the two universities, and also represented the largest enrollment scale over the past. SZPU will, as always, fully support the construction of cooperation programs with City University of Seattle and further deepen the friendly partnership. He also hoped that the students should adhere to the motto of “Advancing with both morality and expertise, strive for self-improvement”, cherish their youth, establish lofty aspirations, cultivate enterprising spirits, and maintain firm wills, and grow into “skilled craftsmen” and “great artisans” who can support “Made in China” and “Created in China” at an early date.
Randy Frisch said, “We are proud to partner with SZPU to develop an international, highly qualified workforce. The program is based on the practitioner/scholar faculty model and will provide students with the latest knowledge in their field of study. Meanwhile, the program will help students with construction of bridges between the world, deepen cultural exchanges, and ensure the quality of education.” He welcomed the students present to join the Sino-USA cooperative education program between City University of Seattle and SZPU . Students in this program will be taught by outstanding teachers in both China and the United States, and will have the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree at City University of Seattle. He hoped that students will believe in their own wisdom and courage, expand their horizons, enrich their knowledge and learn skills that will help them in their future careers.
Then, Zhang Qiqi, a student from the School of Artificial Intelligence, delivered a speech as a representative of all freshmen. She thanked City University of Seattle and SZPU for providing a broad learning platform and further study opportunities. She would work hard to improve her professional skills and overall quality as well. Zhang Zeyan, a teacher from the School of Management, spoke on behalf of all teachers. She began with the seven words “self-discipline, self-reliance, self-care, self-study, self-improvement, self-reflection and self-confidence”, encouraging everyone to improve and develop themselves, do the right thing at the right time, and eventually become that “great self”.
At the end of the ceremony, the two sides gave each other souvenirs and took a group photo. (School of Management, School of Artificial Intelligence)
