Recently, the results of the 2023 "Guangdong University Counselors of the Year" and "Guangdong College Students of the Year" selection were announced. Ren Yuanmei, a counselor from the School of Automotive and Transportation, was honored with the "Guangdong University Counselor of the Year" title. Yang Jingxian, a student from the School of Materials and Environmental Engineering, received a nomination for the "Guangdong College Student of the Year." Wu Zehua, a student from the School of Automotive and Transportation, and Li Qiuhu, a student from the School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, were awarded the "Guangdong College Student of the Year" Honorable Mention. The total number of awards set a new record.

The selection activity was organized by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, aiming to implement Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, actively foster and promote advanced role models of university counselors and students, demonstrate the positive spirit of counselors and students across the province's universities, and guide the development of the student work teams in universities. Through the recommendation from universities, expert review, and on-site defense, the final results selected 10 winners, 10 nominees, and 20 honorable mentions for the "Guangdong University Counselor of the Year," and 10 winners, 20 nominees, and 30 honorable mentions for the "Guangdong College Student of the Year."

The university's Party Committee attaches great importance to the development of the counselor team. University leaders have frequently chaired counselor forums and continuously improved the top-level design for counselor team development, providing guidance and support for their growth. The university adheres to a combination of "inviting in and going out," regularly organizes counselor training, forums, and salons, and vigorously promotes the establishment of counselor work studios. Counselors are encouraged to participate in counselor quality and ability competitions and the annual counselor selection, reinforcing the cultivation of student ideological and political work leaders and continuously improving the quality and level of student ideological and political work, yielding positive results.

Moving forward, the Student Affairs Office will continue to improve the counselor training system, enhance counselors' political awareness, professional skills, and academic levels, and promote the professional, vocational, and expert development of counselors in the new era. The goal is to build a team of counselors with strong faith, clear ideas, compassion, practical skills, and a sense of responsibility, paving the way for the growth of new talents in the current era.
