On-Site Evaluation Conducted for Newly Proposed Bachelor’s Degree Programs at SZPU

Date: May 9, 2025

From April 17 to 18, Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) organized an on-site evaluation for the authorization of newly proposed bachelor’s degree programs. Experts from prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, The University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen Technology University, Shandong University, Hunan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, Shenzhen University, South China University of Technology, and South China Agricultural University visited SZPU to conduct the assessment.

During the evaluation, the expert panel listened to briefings on the university’s overall development and specific program construction, reviewed supporting documents, hosted faculty and student discussion sessions, observed classroom teaching, and conducted field inspections of the programs’ teaching and research facilities. They thoroughly examined faculty composition, teaching teams, curriculum resources, academic management, and project-based learning implementations. They also engaged in detailed Q&A and discussions with department and program leaders.

The expert panel concluded that the proposed bachelor’s degree programs align well with the needs of regional industries, featuring clear positioning, sound planning, and solid implementation strategies. The talent cultivation goals and training plans meet national educational standards. The curriculum is appropriately structured, the faculty teams are sufficient in size and balanced in composition, and the programs maintain high levels of teaching and research quality. Additionally, the evaluation noted well-established academic management systems, standardized teaching assessment mechanisms, and comprehensive lab and training facilities to support high-level technical talent development.

Following deliberation, the experts unanimously recommended that nine programs—Integrated Circuit Engineering Technology, Software Engineering Technology, Big Data Engineering Technology, Automation Technology and Applications, Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Intelligent Connected Vehicle Engineering Technology, Pharmaceutical Engineering Technology, New Materials and Applications Technology, and Industrial Design—be approved as bachelor’s degree programs. The panel also provided constructive suggestions for further improvement in program development.

President Xu Jianling presented an overview of SZPU’s institutional development and elaborated on its efforts in advancing vocational undergraduate reform and program innovation. He expressed appreciation for the expert panel’s valuable feedback and affirmed that SZPU will continue to embrace its vocational education identity, deepen reforms, and focus on the “Four Types of Collaboration” and “Five Key Elements” to enhance the quality of undergraduate education. He emphasized SZPU’s commitment to becoming a flagship institution in the innovative development of vocational education in China.

This marks the second round of bachelor’s degree program evaluations since SZPU was authorized to confer bachelor’s degrees. The review signifies a solid and far-reaching step forward in SZPU’s journey as a vocational undergraduate institution. Looking ahead, the university will further optimize its faculty structure, strengthen program distinctiveness, and emphasize the cultivation of practical skills, aiming to pioneer a new model of vocational undergraduate education and contribute high-level technical talent to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
