On May 15, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a leading higher education evaluation agency, officially released the 2025 edition of itsBest Chinese Vocational Colleges Ranking. Among the 1,372 vocational institutions assessed nationwide, Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) secured the top position in the newly introduced ranking of undergraduate-level vocational universities, with a total score of 451.4 points.

This marks the first year that ShanghaiRanking has introduced a separate ranking for undergraduate-level vocational universities. Together with the existing ranking of higher vocational (junior college) institutions, the 2025 rankings provide a comprehensive, tiered, and categorized evaluation of all 1,372 higher vocational institutions in China—comprising 60 vocational universities and 1,312 junior colleges.

Supported by extensive data from the “360-Degree Monitoring Platform for Vocational Education”, the evaluation framework consists of six core modules: moral education, institutional positioning, faculty resources, educational conditions, student development, and societal contribution. These are further broken down into 28 dimensions and 62 indicators, drawing on 201 data variables in total. The result is a multidimensional, data-driven assessment of institutional quality in China’s vocational education sector.
