University Partners with DJI to Explore New Models for Youth Science and Technology Innovation Talent Development

Date: Aug 6, 2025

At the recently concluded “First Youth Science and Technology Innovation Talent Conference”, the cooperation between Shenzhen Polytechnic University (hereinafter referred to as “SZPU”) and DJI became a highlight of the conference. As the conference organizer, SZPU and DJI, through jointly promoting important events such as the RoboMaster and the Youth Science and Technology Innovation Talent Conference, further explored exemplary models for university-enterprise collaborative talent cultivation.

The conference was hosted by Xu Jianling, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shenzhen Polytechnic University. Eighteen academicians and experts, over 100 university leaders and teachers, discussed topics such as top-notch innovative talent cultivation in the intelligent era and the construction of industry-education integration ecosystems. Through rich formats such as keynote reports by academicians and experts, university-enterprise roundtable dialogues, and innovative achievement exhibitions, the conference built a deep integration platform for industry-academia-research encompassing talent cultivation, technology R&D, and achievement transformation, effectively promoting the organic integration of the education chain, talent chain, industry chain, and innovation chain.

At the conference, Yuan Lei, Member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Education Working Committee of the CPC, stated that after more than 20 years of development, the National University Robot Competition has become an important innovation platform covering over 400 universities worldwide and producing 100,000 engineers, particularly the RoboMaster leading educational reform through an innovative model of “interdisciplinary integration and industry-education collaboration”. Fu Mengyin, President of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, systematically elaborated on the concept of cultivating outstanding engineering talents in the context of the new technological revolution from the four dimensions of “hearing the way, seeking the way, comprehending the way, and aspiring to the way”. Wu Xiangping, Dean of the School of Astronomy and Space Science at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, emphasized the key role of maintaining scientific curiosity in breaking through technological barriers. Xu Jianling proposed the “three breakthroughs and three establishments” path for vocational education reform, emphasizing that vocational education should shift from passively adapting to industry to actively defining demands. He introduced that SZPU added majors such as Drone System Application Technology in 2025, precisely aligning with Shenzhen's “20+8” industrial clusters, and co-built 15 characteristic industry colleges with enterprises like DJI, allowing students to participate in real R&D projects, achieving “breaking boundaries and practical talent cultivation”.

This conference fully showcased the cooperation achievements of both parties. The RoboMaster platform co-built by both parties has become an important stage for young engineers’ innovative practice. Through the model of “promoting learning through competitions and promoting innovation through competitions”, it has constructed a complete closed loop of “classroom learning-competition validation-industry application”, not only cultivating students’ engineering practical abilities and innovative thinking but also delivering a large number of high-skilled talents to industry.

Both parties jointly develop professional courses and training systems.

It is introduced that since the cooperation between SZPU and DJI began in 2021, they have established an all-round, multi-level cooperation relationship, including co-building the Drone Application Technology University-Enterprise Cooperation Center and the Ecology and SDK Joint Research Center at the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, establishing the “1+X” Joint Development Center and DJI Scholarships, and jointly developing professional courses and training systems.

Looking to the future, both parties will continue to advance cooperation. Xu Jianling stated: “By building an industry mentor reservoir, we have introduced over 300 technical backbones from enterprises like DJI to serve as industry professors, bringing the latest process standards into the classroom.” Both parties will further explore co-building demonstration bases for industry-education integration between SZPU and excellent technology enterprises, deepen the integration of DJI’s RoboMaster events with professional courses, jointly develop internationally recognized vocational skills certification systems, and promote Chinese standards for robotics and drone vocational education to the world.
