The School of Foreign Languages and business was founded in 1994, offering 5 programs covering Business English, which was awarded honors such as National Model Program for vocational colleges by China Ministry of Education and Top Program (Level A) in Vocational Education in Guangdong Province, Business Japanese, which was also recognized as Top Program (Level B) in Vocational Education in Guangdong Province, Applied French, Applied German and Applied Foreign Languages (featuring Spanish, Korean, Russian, and Arabic) and International Business, which was affiliated to SFLB in 2019 and also on the list of Top Program (Level B) in Vocational Education in Guangdong Province. More than 2,000 full-time students are studying in SFLB.
SFLB boasts a strong faculty. 160 full-time staff members consists of 16 full professors, 47 associate professors, 34 doctoral degree holders and doctoral candidates, and 22 international teachers. 79 of the faculty have working or studying experience abroad. One was awarded the title of National Excellent Teacher. At the time, SFLB offers college English courses to more than 10, 000 students across the campuses.
SFLB establishes an Intelligent Learning Center featuring smart learning and 125 out-campus practice learning bases jointly developed by the school and businesses and industry associations. Among them, the China Hi-Tech Fair Base and Shenzhen Furniture Industry Association Base were listed as the Out-campus Practice Learning Base of Guangdong Province.
Vocation-oriented College English reform and OBE approach are drawing increasing attention in China. China Vocational English Research Center was jointly established by SFLB and CLA (China Language Assessment)of Beijing International Studies University in 2017. OBE Research and Advancement Center was co-founded by SFLB and Queensland University of Technology to enhance teaching capacities in TVET. More than 80 textbooks developed by SFLB are widely used. More than 40 research projects are funded by governments at various levels. Among them, the book,Teaching English in TVET: Theories and Practice,was awarded first prize by China Ministry of Education. Five courses were founded by National Quality Courses program, three by National Online Quality Courses program.
The school has also signed Joint Education Agreements with numerous universities and educational organizations in Britain, America, Germany,Australia, Spain, France, Russia, Japan and Korea, developing exchange programs. To date, the school has sent about 200 students abroad for advanced study, and about 7o students are going abroad each year as exchange students.
To keep abreast of the rapid growth of digital industry, SFLB set up the campus Cross-border E-commerce Center to develop digital trade professionals with joint efforts from famous enterprises. In January, 2019, Alibaba DIgital Trade School was jointly founded by SFLB and Alibaba Group to prepare professionals for leading new trading modes and international trade rules.
